The WS-I Board of Directors has appointed Ram Jeyaraman, Microsoft, as chair of the Basic Profile Working Group. Ram currently works as a technical diplomat in the Windows Communications Framework Web Services team at Microsoft. WS-I would like to thank departing chair Chris Ferris, IBM, for his significant contributions over the past four years.
The WS-I Board of Directors has appointed Skip Snow, Citigroup, as chair of the Requirements Gathering Working Group. Skip is senior vice president and chief SOA architect in the Office of Enterprise Technology at Citigroup. Skip replaces Bob Freund, Hitachi Software, who was recently appointed chair of the new Reliable Secure Profile Working Group.
As a result of the appointment of Bob Freund, Hitachi Software, as chair of the new Reliable Secure Profile Working Group, WS-I is looking to fill the chair position for the Requirements Gathering Working Group. The Requirements Gathering Working Group works to identify and understand Web services interoperability issues, and to develop requirements for new WS-I profiles. This is done by analyzing business scenarios and use cases that are submitted by the membership and the industry at large.

The WS-I Board of Directors has appointed Bob Freund, Hitachi Software, as chair the Reliable Secure Profile Working Group. Freund has been an active participant of WS-I for several years and most recently was chair of the Requirements Gathering Working Group.
The WS-I Fall Community Meeting will take place October 17-19, 2006 at the Santa Clara Marriott in Santa Clara, Calif. WS-I Community Meetings are held three times a year and provide an excellent opportunity for members to meet face-to-face to advance the technical work of the organization. More information about the Fall Community Meeting will be available shortly.
WS-I today announced that the WS-I Board of Directors has approved two new Working Group charters, which will result in the development of three new WS-I Profiles in 2006: the Basic Profile 1.2, Basic Profile 2.0, and Reliable Secure Profile 1.0.
The WS-I Board of Directors, by unanimous vote, appointed Michael Bechauf Chairman of the Board. Bechauf, Vice President of Industry Standards at SAP succeeds Tom Glover, Senior Program Manager of Web Services Standards for IBM's Software Group, who has served as WS-I Chairman since the organization's inception in February, 2002.
Members of WS-I will gather this week for the Spring Community Meeting in Salt Lake City. The WS-I Community Meetings are held threee times a year and provide the organization's technical working groups and committees with a chance to meet face-to-face to further their important work. The SPring Community Meeting will feature a keynote presentation by Ron Schmelzer, Senior Analyst at ZapThink LLC, a community address by Chairman Tom Glover and Birds of a Feather sessions led by WS-I members HR-XML Consortium and IBM.
WS-I will be hosting two Birds-of-a-Feather (BOF) sessions at the Spring 2006 Community Meeting in Salt Lake City. BOFs are a great opportunity for members to gather together to discuss any topic of common interest.
Prasad Yendluri, Principal Architect, Platform Architecture and Product Strategy Group at webMethods, was re-elected to the WS-I Board of Directors. Biographies for Yendluri and the entire WS-I leadership team can be found on the WS-I Web site.
WS-I approved the Basic Profile 1.0 Errata, Basic Profile 1.1 Errata and Attachments Profile 1.0 Errata as Final Material.
WS-I has updated its Website! Based on feedback from the membersion, WS-I's Marketing and Communications Committee has made many improvements to the current site. Highlights include a new homepage design to more prominently showcase the deliverables, a Market Success section featuring a WS-I case study, and an updated News and Events section that includes an RSS feed.
Mark your calendars! The WS-I Spring Community Meeting will take place March 28-30 in Salt Lake City. All members are encouraged to attend. Registration and hotel information will be available soon via the members' Website.
Each year, WS-I holds elections for seats on its Board of Directors. The nomination period for this year's elections opened on January 1 and closes on February 15. Candidates will be announced on February 16 and balloting will begin on March 15. WS-I members may nominate themselves or any other WS-I members for a Board seat.
